Task Force List

ALICE's List

A nonpartisan fundraising network to support feminist, pro-choice women in local New Jersey elections.

Why, then, do women need power; Because power is freedom. Power allows us to accomplish what is important to us, in the manner that we best see fit. It separates the doers from the dreamers.
Patti F. Mancini, 1989 speech

What is ALICE's List?
The goal of ALICEs List is to support feminist pro-choice women in local New Jersey elections in order to empower all women and bring them into full political, financial, and social equality.

ALICE's List supports candidates by coordinating a network of donors who contribute to the financial resources of the candidate''s campaign. Unlike other PACs, which support only candidates who can demonstrate political viability, we want to give every qualified woman a chance to run for local public office.

We want qualified women to run, and we don't want money to be a prohibiting factor!

Why is ALICE's List needed?
Although women account for 52 percent of the voting population, they are not represented in such proportions at any level of government. New Jersey ranks 43rd among the 50 states in the proportion of women serving in its legislature.

Candidates establish political credibility in part by demonstrating financial strength. Contributions made early in a campaign and aimed at women candidates will increase their chances for success.

Sponsorship
ALICE's List is sponsored by the South Jersey-Alice Paul chapter of the National Organization for Women. Our chapter includes more than 400 members from South Jersey who seek to further the legal, social, financial and political equality of women in a variety of ways.

The chapter takes its name from Alice Paul, a native of Mt. Laurel and a tireless champion for women's equality. Alice Paul played a critical role in gaining the right to vote for women. She earned three law degrees, and in 1923 she drafted the Equal Rights Amendment, working toward its passage until her death in 1977. A lifelong activist, Alice Paul continues to inspire us with her courage and dedication.

ACORR

ACORR (Alice's Champion of Reproductive Rights) is dedicated to keeping a woman's right to choose safe, legal and accessible. We ask our volunteers to come out one Saturday morning a month for two hours and escort patients into the clinic.

For more info on joining us, call the South Jersey NOW-Alice Paul Chapter at 856-778-8320 and leave a message. Or write to South Jersey NOW-Alice Paul Chapter, Attn: ACORR, PO Box 2801, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. You can also email us.

The right to choose is meaningless if access to reproductive healthcare is denied. Let our presence show that we are determined to keep the clinics open!
